The Perfect Minnesota Staycation
How to Embark on a Cabin Escape Up North
Though this time of year can give us all feelings of restlessness as we await spring, it’s also the perfect time to take advantage of the “staycation.” After all, just a few hours’ drive away, there are incredible weekend getaways just waiting for you to enjoy. Whether you’re planning a romantic weekend with a loved one or want something a bit more active for the whole family or a group of friends, there’s nothing quite like a cabin escape in northern Minnesota where you can take in the snowy winter views from a cozy perch. This week, we’re showing you our favorite Minnesota staycation finds, and we have a feeling that once you get a glimpse, your next getaway will be booked in an instant.
Crisp and clean, this modern cabin sits high on a bluff in Schroeder, Minnesota, and it’s a view of Lake Superior you’ll be hard pressed to find anywhere else. Windows cover nearly every exterior wall, so you’ll truly feel as though you’re sitting right in the heart of nature (but with a warm and roaring fireplace, of course). If you’re looking for a contemporary escape, this will definitely top your list. Designed in 2009 by Snow Kreilich Architects, this multi-award winning cabin has us astounded.
Located right on a private stretch of Lake Superior’s Pebble Beach, this beautiful cedar shake cabin is known for its breathtaking views of the lake. Floor-to-ceiling windows provide the perfect glimpse of nature, and there’s nothing better than curling up with a good book to watch the snow-tipped pine trees sway in the breeze.
A modern architecture dream, the Gunflint Cabin is located in Grand Marais, Minnesota, and is home to a chic and minimal style you’ll instantly fall in love with. Just steps from the house is an inviting deck where you can soak up the fresh air and view the lake up close, or if you prefer to stay cozy, grab a blanket and take a seat in front of the sleek fireplace – the views are simply astounding. Designed in 2010 by VJAA this AIA Award winning design is top notch in our book.
Practically touching the lapping waves of Lake Superior, Cottage Caim is a beautiful little cabin that’s ideal for a weekend trip. Its contemporary blue exterior fits seamlessly with the nature surrounding it, and its compact, yet comfortable, interior allows for ample space to enjoy a mug of your favorite hot drink as you listen to the sounds of the surf.
Whitetail Woods Camper Cabin
Is there anything more delightful than a lofted woodland view? For a truly unique experience, stay among the trees in this modern and sophisticated cabin in Dakota County, Minnesota, where you’ll be treated to a cozy, inviting atmosphere as you revel in the quiet of the forest. Designed in 2015 by HGA .
Lilla Norr (little north) A-Frame
Currently a work-in-progress, this stunning little A-frame cabin is being remodeled by the owners of Arlee Park, and it’s set to be finished by spring of 2019. With a riverside setting, we can only imagine the potential for amazing winter sunsets and tranquil moments of relaxation. We love the dreamy winter views and can already picture a weekend spent here enjoying the best that the north has to offer.
Finally, for a budget-friendly staycation option, the Adventure Studio in Brainerd is the perfect fit. At only $132 per night, this lofted abode is surrounded by plenty of woodland and offers beautiful views of the lakefront, making it a great spot for a cozy winter escape.
If these stunning cabins have you craving a trip up north, then a winter staycation may be just the antidote you need to survive the next few months here in Minnesota. All you have to do is take the leap.
